Comets 5, Cobbers 4
Despite seeing its five-run lead whittled down by the end, the Comets still held off the Concordia Cobbers for a 5-4 victory on Friday.
The Comets opened up scoring in the first inning when
Quinton Bidon doubled to left to bring in
Adrian Zubia and
Brady Nygaard, 2-0 Comets.
Nygaard added a home run in the third and the Comets tacked on two more in the fourth to take a 5-0 lead.Â
Concordia would respond with three runs of their own in the fifth, Austin Ver Steeg, Andy Gravdahl, and Billy Lynch each drove in runs during the inning to bring the Cobbers back in it.
A sac fly from Grant Toivonen scored another in the seventh to bring Concordia within one. But, the MSU bullpen was able to close the door to get the win.Â
Gabe Lizarraga was the winning pitcher for MSU. He allowed three hits and no runs over three innings, walking one.
Adam Senden,
Matthew Johnston, and
Kenny Stewart all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the victory. Senden recorded the last eight outs to earn the save for the Comets.
Bidon went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead the Comets at the plate on Friday.Â
