Comets 6, Vikings 0
The Comets defeated Valley City State 6-0 on Tuesday as six pitchers combined to throw a shutout in the win. The game had to be cut short and called in the seventh inning due to rain.
Coach Berry's team secured the non-conference victory thanks to six runs right away in the first inning. The early offensive jump start came from singles from
Quinton Bidon,
Kyle Maunahan, and
Riley Nelson, and an error on a ball put in play by
Jon Pluth.
The Vikings had a tough time getting on base with only three hits against the Comet pitchers. VCSU's Chris Peery was able to get two of them for his team with a single in the second and another base hit in the bottom of the seventh.
Parker Stohr started the game for the Comets. He allowed one hit and zero runs over two innings, striking out four and walking none. A number of pitchers entered the game and took their turn on the mound for MSU, with
Zach Giesbrecht,
Matthew Johnston,
Austin Herrington,
Tait Ludwick, and
Josh Rodriguez all securing outs and ultimately the victory.
Phillip Almanza took the loss for Valley City State. He surrendered six runs on four hits over one inning, striking out one and walking one.
Gunner Garpestad,
Riley Nelson,
Adrian Zubia, Bidon,
Kyle Maunahan, and
Zachary Foster all had one hit to lead the Comets at the plate today.
