Comets Drop First Round to Waldorf

The Comets were able to jump out to lead early in Friday's opening round game of the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Conference Tournament, but fell to Waldorf 10-6 as the Warriors came back and defeated Mayville State. MSU jumped out to a 4-0 lead through five innings, but Waldorf found something in the later innings to come back and take the win from Mayville State.

Waldorf scored eight runs in the sixth inning against MSU, the Comets never came back from that and eventually fell in game one.

Things were looking good when the Comets scored three runs in the fifth inning to make it 4-0. The scores came from a two RBI double from Adrian Zubia and a base hit from Jon Pluth to bring Zubia in to make it 4-0. The next inning, Waldorf turned on the offense to come back and close the door on MSU.

Nick Ray was credited with the victory for Waldorf. He lasted two-thirds of an inning, allowing three hits and one run while striking out one.

Austin Herrington started the game for the Comets. He went five and a third innings, allowing two runs on one hit and striking out two. Zach Giesbrecht took the loss for Mayville State, he allowed four runs on one hit.

The Comets tallied nine hits in the game. Zubia, Pluth, Zachary Foster, and Quinton Bidon all had multiple hits for MSU. Zubia led the Comets with three hits in five at bats with a home run, three RBI and three runs scored.

MSU now faces Viterbo tomorrow morning in an elimination game, first pitch is set for 11 a.m.
