Comets 2, Blue Hawks 1
A walk-off single led Mayville State past Dickinson State 2-1 in game one of their doubleheader on Saturday. The game was tied at one with the Comets batting in the bottom of the ninth when
Nicole Bunting singled on the first pitch of the at bat to bring in
Alissa Foster for the game winner.
Dickinson State tied things up at one when a sacrifice bunt from Allen scored a run for the Blue Hawks in the top of the sixth.
The Comets were able to score first when
Nicole Bunting scored on an
Amanda Izzo sac fly in the bottom of the fifth.
The pitching was strong on both sides.
Shaye Kemball struck out five, while Jaya Allen sat down seven.
Kemball was credited with the victory for Mayville State. She allowed five hits and one run over nine innings, striking out five and walking one.
Allen took the loss for Dickinson State. She lasted eight and two-thirds innings, allowing seven hits and two runs while striking out seven and walking one.
The Comets racked up seven hits. Bunting led the Comets with three hits in four at bats.
Comets 3, Blue Hawks 4
Mayville State's effort to come back from down four runs in the seventh inning came up just short, as they fell 4-3 to the Blue Hawks in game two. The Comets scored three runs in the failed comeback on a single by
Alissa Foster, a fielder's choice from
Sierra Niedge, and a groundout by
Aimee Fafard.
Mayville State fell behind early in the loss, the Blue Hawks took the lead on a home run from Jaya Allen in the second inning to start things off.
DSU would score two more in the fourth when Abi Brooks doubled to center to bring in Kayla Stephens and Allen to make it 3-0. The Blue Hawks would get one more run, which would prove to be very important, from a Caitlyn Welch home run in the top of the seventh.
Abi Brooks led Dickinson State to victory in the pitcher's circle. She went seven innings, allowing three runs on five hits, striking out three and walking none.
Annika Seedborg took the loss for the Comets. She allowed four hits and four runs over seven innings, striking out five.
Tai Yamamoto led Mayville State with two hits in two at bats.
Allen went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Dickinson State in hits.
