Game One: Mayville State 5, Dakota State 3
Mayville State snagged a late lead and defeated Dakota State University 5-3 in game one on Sunday. The game was tied at three with Mayville State batting in the bottom of the fifth, when Shaye Kemball grounded out, scoring one run.
Dakota State scored three runs in the third inning, but Mayville State still managed to pull out the victory. The offensive onslaught by the Trojans was led by Xitlali Lopez and Sarah Torres, who each had RBIs in the inning.
In the bottom of the third inning, the Comets tied things up at three. Jade Ledochowski drove in one when she singled.
Kemball was the winning pitcher for Mayville State. She went the distance, allowing six hits and three runs while striking out seven and walking one.
Lopez took the loss for Dakota State. She went six innings, allowing five runs on eight hits and striking out one.
The Comets tallied eight hits. Alissa Foster and Dayna Gutierrez all had multiple hits. Gutierrez and Foster all had two hits to lead Mayville State. The Comets stole six bases during the game, as two players stole more than one. Amanda Izzo led the way with four.
Lopez went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Dakota State.
Game Two: Mayville State 7, Dakota State 0
Annika Seedborg didn't allow a single run as Mayville State defeated Dakota State 7-0 in game two on Sunday. Seedborg allowed just six hits.
Shaye Kemball led Mayville State to victory by driving in six runs. She went 3-for-4 at the plate. Kemball drove in runs on a groundout in the first, a home run in the third, a double in the fourth, and a single in the sixth.
Mayville State opened up scoring in the first inning, when Kemball grounded out, scoring one run.
The Comets scored three runs in the sixth inning. The rally was led by singles by Dayna Gutierrez and Kemball.
A single by Nicole Stewart in the first inning was a positive for Dakota State.
Seedborg was credited with the victory for Mayville State . She lasted seven innings, allowing six hits and zero runs while striking out six and walking zero.
Madison Aldendifer was on the rubber for Dakota State. She lasted three and two-thirds innings, allowing eight hits and four runs. Jayme Knauer threw two and a third innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Mayville State hit one home run on the day. Kemball went deep in the third inning.
The Comets hit the ball well, tallying up 12 hits in the game. Kemball, Gutierrez, and Amanda Izzo all collected multiple hits for Mayville State. Gutierrez and Kemball each collected three hits to lead the Comets.
Stewart went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Dakota State University Trojans Varsity in hits.
