Comets strong second quarter, gives them win number one Friday

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Mayville State University Women's Basketball team opened the 2020-21 season with a victory over Trinity Bible College by a final score of 75-36.
 
The Comets and Lions played a tight game through the first 10 minutes of the game, as the Comets only had a three-point advantage. With 3:00 left in the second quarter, the Comets started a 14-0 run to take a 46-28 advantage into the break.
 
Mayville State would start the third quarter exactly how they finished the second, starting on an 8-0 run to push the lead to 28. The Comet defense would only allow eight points in the second half to the Lions to secure a 75-36 victory.
 
MSU shot 50.8 percent from the field and 40.0 percent from behind the arc. They also finished with 19 points off turnovers, 15 second chance points, and 29 bench points.
 
Jordan Zrust led the Comets in the scoring department with 15 points, she also tallied four rebounds, and one assist. CJ Decker tallied 12 points, six rebounds, and four assists in the victory. The NDSU transfer, Danneka Voegeli recorded 11 points, four rebounds, and one assist.
 
Grace Cote tallied 12 points off the bench for the Comets, with three rebounds and 4-of-8 shooting from the outside. Taylor Dean and Kayla Rocholl each recorded five points in the victory.
 
The Comets are back in action tomorrow afternoon at the Israel-Strong Memorial Tournament, as they face Dickinson State in a non-conference contest. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 PM against the Blue Hawks.
