Comets out-score the Blue Hawks by eight in the second half to pick up win number two

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Mayville State University Women's Basketball team picked up a 70-64 victory over Dickinson State Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Comets move to 2-0 on the regular season.
 
The Blue Hawks would have a lead for majority of the first quarter and take a three-point advantage heading into the second quarter. Mayville State would tie the game at 24 with 2:22 left in the first half on a 3-point bucket by CJ Decker. MSU would trail by two heading into the intermission.
 
Mayville State took a lead for the first time since 2-0 with 7:30 left in the third quarter on a 3-point basket by Grace Cote. The Comets went on a 6-2 run in the middle stages of the third quarter to give them an eight-point advantage. MSU would take a four-point lead heading into the fourth quarter.
 
With 6:51 left in the fourth quarter, the game was tied before Danneka Voegeli scored a bucket to break the tie. The Comets and Blue Hawks were tied at 59 before Grace Cote dropped another three the Comets a three-point advantage with 2:11 left in the fourth quarter. MSU would make free-throws down the stretch to pick up win number two on the early season.
 
The Comets shot 45.1 percent from the field, 36.4 percent from the 3-point line and 16-28 from the free-throw line. MSU also had 14 points off turnovers, 15 bench points, six second chance points, and two fast break points.
 
Jordan Zrust finished with a game-high 26 points, four rebounds, one assist, and three steals. CJ Decker tallied 18 points, six rebounds, and two assists. Danneka Voegeli recorded 11 points, seven rebounds, one assist, and one steal. Grace Cote hit three 3-pointers in the victory with three rebounds, and one assist.
 
The Comets are back in action next weekend as they head to Madison, South Dakota for the Dakota Clash. MSU will play Presentation College on Friday and Dakota State on Saturday. Both games are non-conference games for the Comets.
