Mayville, N.D. – The Mayville State University Men's Basketball put up 103 points in the home opener Friday night. The Comets improve to 2-0 on the season.
The Comets were up one with 12:29 left in the first half before going on a mini 6-0 run to force a Wolfpack timeout. Three minutes later, MSU went on another 6-0 run to extend the 12 on a bucket from
Cameron Fisher. Mayville State would finish the final 3:13 of the first half on a 14-2 run to give them a 28-point advantage heading into the intermission.
In the first half, the Comets shot 60.0 percent from the field, 40.0 percent from behind the arc, and 11-of-13 from the free-throw line. Oak Hills kept the Comet lead at 25 with 13:29 left in the second half before an 11-0 run to put the game out of reach for the Wolfpack. A couple of late threes from
Tyler Goodlow pushed the Comets into triple digits.
The Comets out-scored the Wolfpack by two points in the second half to pick up the 30-point victory over Oak Hills Christian. For the game, MSU shot 58.0 percent from the field, 35.0 percent from behind the arc, and 16-of-24 from the free-throw line. They also tallied 54 rebounds, 21 assists on 40 field goals, three blocks, and six steals.
Keiron Goodwin recorded a double-double tonight finishing with 28 points, 12 rebounds, two assists, and one steal.
Cameron Fisher tallied 10 points, two rebounds, five assists, and one steal.
Thomas Gieske also recorded a double-double with 16 points, 15 rebounds, and three assists.
Iker Cruz in 23 minutes tallied nine points, six rebounds, one assist, one block, and one steal.
Winder Joseph recorded seven points, four rebounds, three assists, and one steal.
Carl Snyder in 13 minutes, tallied five points, three rebounds, and one steal.
John Ketchel recorded nine points off the bench.
Leon Williams scored seven points on six shots in the victory.
Comets are back in action Tuesday, as they host Dickinson State for a non-conference game starting at 7:00 PM.
