Mayville, N.D. – For the second time this season, the Men's basketball team hits the century mark scoring 105 points in the victory over the Lions Wednesday night. The Comets move to 3-1 on the season.
The Comets started the game fast with a 6-0 lead within the first two minutes of the game. Trinity Bible would answer that run with an 8-0 run of their own to take a two-point advantage. Minutes later, Mayville State would start another run of 14-2 to jump out to a 12-point lead. The Comets would continue to extend the lead throughout the half and took a 20-point lead heading into the intermission.
MSU started the second half just like the first with a 12-2 run to jump out to their biggest lead at 30 with 15:36 left in the second half. Another large run in the middle stages of the second half pushed the lead to 41 at 76-35 with 10:30 left in the second half. Paul MacSteves hit a three late in the second half to give the Comets 105 points and a 55-point victory.
The Comets shot 52.7 percent from the field, 44.4 percent from behind the arc, 11-of-15 from the free-throw line. MSU also pulled in 56 rebounds, 29 assists on 39 field goals, three blocks, and nine steals. Kieron Goodwin finished with 31 points and four rebounds.
Thomas Gieske recorded his second double-double of the season finishing with 20 points, 14 rebounds, three assists, and one steal. John Ketchel was the last Comet player in double figures with 11 points, one rebound, and eight assists. Xavier Towne scored nine points, five rebounds, two assists, two steals, and one block. Latrelle Franklin and Iker Cruz each scored eight points in the victory. Carl Snyder tallied nine points, three rebounds, one block, and one steal. Paul MacSteves scored six points and one assist in the victory.
The Comets open conference play on Saturday, as they host Presentation College. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 pm against the Saints.
