Doane University runs away with early lead in victory
Mayville State fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 2-1 loss to Doane University on Saturday. Doane University took the lead on a single in the second inning.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Doane University pitchers struck out seven, while Mayville State sat down four.
Doane University opened up scoring in the second inning. Doane University scored one run when Jaryn Nakamoto singled.
Travis Cowan earned the win for Doane University. He surrendered one run on six hits over five innings, striking out five. Brady McMurray and Staley Gilmore entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. McMurray recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Doane University.
Parker Stohr took the loss for Mayville State. He surrendered two runs on seven hits over five and a third innings, striking out four and walking zero.
Skyler Forst went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Mayville State in hits.
Lukas White led Doane University with two hits in three at bats. Doane University was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Max McGuire had the most chances in the field with seven.

Doane University walks away with doubleheader win
Mayville State watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 9-2 loss to Doane University on Saturday. Doane University scored on a single by Andy Theiler, a double by Lukas White, and a home run by Talon Little in the second inning.
The Comets struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Doane University, giving up nine runs.
Mayville State got things moving in the second inning.Â
Skyler Forst hit a solo homer.
White led the Doane University to victory on the mound. He lasted four innings, allowing one hit and one run while striking out three. Staley Gilmore threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Conner DiNaro took the loss for Mayville State. He went three and a third innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits, striking out four and walking one.
Mayville State University hit two home runs on the day. Forst had a four bagger in the second inning.Â
