Mayville State took the lead late and defeated Doane University 9-7 on Sunday. The game was tied at seven with the Comets batting in the top of the tenth when
Michael Theisen doubled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run.
A six-run lead in the fifth inning was just enough for the Comets to hold off Doane University for the victory. Doane University scored six runs in the failed comeback on a single by Lukas White in the fifth, a double by Bob Mercier in the fifth, a single by Joe Osborn in the fifth, a double by Brett Meyer in the seventh, and a single by Jaryn Nakamoto in the seventh.
Mayville State got things moving in the first inning, when Theisen homered on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Doane University tied things up at seven when Nakamoto singled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run.
