The Comets dropped a non-conference game against Olivet Nazarene University this morning by a final score of 16-1. The Comets drop to 3-6 on the regular season.
The Tigers scored two run in the second inning of
Shaye Kemball. MAyville State threatened in the second inning getting two runners on base before a ground out to the pitcher to end the inning. The Tigers opened the game in the third inning scoring four runs on three hits to take a 6-0 lead.
ONU added another run in the fifth inning on two hits to extend the lead to 7-0. The Comets put together another threat in the bottom of the fifth inning by getting two runners on but a ground out to third base ended the Comets threat.
MSU scored one run in the bottom of the sixth inning off back-to-back one out double from
Jocelyn Ontiveros and
Tai Yamamoto to score the only run of the game for the Comets. The Tigers added nine runs in the top of the seventh inning on nine hits.
Yamamoto finished the game going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate in today's game, driving in the only run for the Comets. Ontiveros tallied one hit in three at-bats scoring one run.
Dayna Gutierrez and
Shaye Kemball recorded one hit in the loss.
Lindsey Swanson and
Lacey Burr each tallied one hit for the Comets. Kemball started in the circle for the Comets going 6.0 innings giving up 12 hits, eight earned runs, one walk, and three strikouts.
Lindsey Swanson pitched 0.1 innings giving up four hits, three earned runs, and one walk.
Annika Seedborg picked up the final two outs giving up one hit and struck out two.
The second game against Dordt College was cancelled due to rain and field conditions. The Comets are back in action March 14th for a doubleheader against University of Saint Francis starting at 9 am MST.
