Late Game Hitting Pushes Comets Past Broncos in Doubleheader Sweep

Comets score runs late in both games to pick up a doubleheader sweep of Hastings College Sunday afternoon. After the sweep, the Comets improve to 9-5 on the regular season heading into The Tucson Invitational games.
 
Game One:
 
The Broncos scored one run in the second inning to take an early 1-0 lead on the Comets. Hastings College would add another run in the fourth inning off a double from Tino Zach to extend the Bronco lead to two.
 
Mayville State tied the game up at two in the sixth inning, it started with Michael Theisen and Skyler Forst were hit by a pitch. Brantt Wood grounded out to the second baseman after runners advanced to cut the lead in half. Quinton Bidon delivered the big hit in the sixth inning with a game-tying double. The following hitter, Gunner Garpestad singled sharply to centerfield and the pinch runner Rocholl was thrown out at the plate to end the threat in the sixth inning.
 
Preston Edinger pitched a one, two, three seventh inning to force extra innings. With one out in the eighth inning, Forst singled to left field. Two batters later, Bidon hit his second consecutive double that scored Forst from first base. Bidon closed out the game on the mound picking up his first save o the season.
 
The Comets finished the game with three runs, on five hits, and zero errors. Bidon led the Comets with two hits and two runs batted in. Michael Theisen tallied one hit and scored one run in the victory. Forst and Garpestad also tallied one hit in game one. Tait Ludwick started the game on the mound for Mayville State going 6.0 innings giving up three hits, two earned runs, and six strikeouts. Preston Edinger picked up the win going 1.0 innings allowing zero hits. Bidon picked up the save having one clean inning.
 
Game Two:
 
Hastings College scored one run in the bottom of the first inning to take an early one run lead on the Comets. The Comets answered in the top of the second inning on a Bidon single that scored Forst. Later that inning, Marcus Wohl singled to left that scored Bidon to take a 2-1 lead after two innings. Hastings College tied the game up in the bottom of the second inning.
 
Mayville State broke the tie in the top of the sixth innings scoring to runs. Jared McCorrister singled to center. He was ran for by Rocholl who scored on Forst double. The Comets loaded the bases later that inning and Marcus Wohl walked that scored Forst. The Broncos got out of the inning with the bases loaded. MSU added one more run in the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly from Bidon that scored Theisen and complete the sweep.
 
Forst led the Comets in game two with two hits, one run scored, and one run batted in. Bidon drove in two runs, on one hit and scored a run. Wohl tallied one hit in three at-bats with two runs batted in. Matthew Johnston started on the mound for the Comets and picked up the no-decision going 2.0 innings, giving up seven hits, two earend runs, and two strikeouts. Edinger pitched 3.0 innnings allowing one hit, giving up four walks, and struck out one. Bidon picked up the win in game two pitching 2.0 innings with one walk, and four strikeouts.
 
The Comets are back in action Tuesday morning in Tucson, Arizona for the Tucson Invitational Games. The Comets match-up against the Bulldogs of Concordia-Nebraska. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m. CST against the Bulldogs.
