During the 2019 season, the Comet picked up a doubleheader sweep against the Warriors by a final score of 14-4 and 11-3. Mayville State finished with 25 runs and 27 hits in the doubleheader sweep.Â
Comets 14, Warriors 4
Shaye Kemball had a busy day at the plate in game one on Monday, smacking three home runs in Mayville State's 14-4 victory over the Warriors. Kemball homered in the first, singled in the third, homered in the fifth, and homered in the sixth.
The Comets earned the victory despite allowing the Warriors to score four runs in the fifth inning. Waldorf's big inning was driven by a home run from Ursula Delcampo and an error on a ball put in play by Lauren Hein.
Mayville State University got their offense started in the first when Kemball homered on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs. Then the Comets tallied five more runs in the third inning to grow the lead. The offensive onslaught from MSU was led by Kemball,
Jade Ledochowski,
Laura Spurgeon,
Sierra Niedge, and
Nicole Bunting, all driving in runs in the frame.
Kemball also toed the rubber for Mayville State in game one. She went six innings, allowing four runs on four hits and striking out three.
Karlee Leyvas was in the pitcher's circle for the Warriors. She went two and a third innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits, striking out one and walking none. Jessica Whitaker threw three and a third innings in relief.
Mayville State tallied 15 hits on the day. Kemball,
Alissa Foster, Spurgeon,
Amanda Izzo, and
Dayna Gutierrez all had multiple hits to lead the way at the plate for the Comets.Â
Comets 11, Warriors 3
In game two on Monday, Mayville State snagged a late lead and defeated Warriors 11-3 on Monday. The game was tied at three with the Comets batting in the bottom of the fourth when
Amanda Izzo singled on a 2-2 count, scoring
Lindsey Swanson to pull ahead by one. The next batter,
Nicole Bunting, drilled a triple to right field to bring in two more runs and to give the Comets the lead for good.Â
Mayville State added some insurance with two runs in the fifth after a Tai Yamamote two-run shot. Then
Alissa Foster finished things in the sixth with a three-run home run over the left field fence to make it 11-3.Â
Annika Seedborg handled things in the circle for Mayville State. She lasted six innings, allowing five hits and three runs while striking out eight and walking one.
The Comets totaled 12 hits. Yamamoto, Bunting, Izzo, and
Dayna Gutierrez all had two hits to lead Mayville State in game two.
Taylor Navrahl led the Warriors with two hits in three at bats.
