Comets pick up an extra inning victory over Jimmies

Jamestown, N.D. – The Mayville State University baseball team won a thriller in Jamestown Thursday night by a final score of 5-4 in 11 innings. The Comets move to 3-1 on the fall.
 
After three scoreless innings, MSU scored in the fourth inning when on a single by Jared McCorrister that scored curtesy runner Sammy Satrom. In the top of the fourth inning, Adam Senden hit his third home run of the season to left field to give the Comets a 2-0 lead.
 
Satrom would score his second run of the game in the fifth inning off a single from Michael Theisen to give MSU a 3-0 lead. University of Jamestown scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on a home run to cut the lead to one. The Jimmies would tie the game at three in the bottom of the sixth inning.
 
Jamestown would take the lead in the bottom of the seventh and give them a one run lead heading into the final two innings. Satrom would score his third run and tying run in the top of the ninth inning to tie the game at four. Theisen singled to right field with runners on first and second and the leading run was thrown out at the plate.
 
In the bottom of the ninth, right fielder Theo May hit the cutoff man and threw out the game-winning run at the plate. Preston Edinger stranded bases loaded in the bottom of the tenth inning to give the Comets a chance in the 11th inning. With two outs in the inning, Marcus Wohl hits his first home run of the season to field to give MSU a 5-4 victory.
 
Marcus Wohl led the Comets with four hits, one run scored, two runs batted in, and one walk. Senden hit his third home run against Jamestown tonight scoring one run and drove in one run. Matthew Johnston picked up the no-decision tonight going 5.1 innings allowing two hits, one earned run, two walks, and eight strikeouts. Edinger picks up the win going 1.1 innings allowing two walks and two strikeouts.
 
The Comets baseball team returns home Sunday as they play the Jimmies. First pitch is scheduled for 12 pm against University of Jamestown from Scott Berry Field. JV will follow the varsity game shortly after.
