Mayville, N.D. – A five-run second inning propels Comets in victory over Jimmies. Mayville State moves to 4-1 on the fall season with the final game on Friday.
University of Jamestown started the scoring in the first inning with two runs. Comets answered in the second inning with five runs. Theo May doubled in Forst and Ferrera to tie the game at two. The next batter Villanueva reached on an error to put runners on 1st and 3rd. Satrom hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score May.
A couple of batters later Marcus Hughes singled to left to score Villanueva. Alex Aguilar scored the fifth run of the inning to give the Comets a 5-2. The Jimmies would get one run in the top of the fourth inning to cut the lead to two. UJ would score two more in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game at five.
Hughes would score in the bottom of the fifth inning off a sacrifice fly to center field by Forst to give the lead back to the Comets. MSU would add an insurance run in the seventh inning on a double from Forst to give the Comets a 7-5 lead. Kenny Stewart would close the door in the ninth getting the final batter to ground out to third.
Marcus Hughes went 1-for-3 with two runs scored, one run batted in, and two walks. Skylar Forst and Theo May each tallied one hit with one run scored and two runs batted in. Adam Senden started the game on the mound going 3.1 innings, allowing three earned runs, two walks, and two strikeouts. Calvin Watkins pitched 0.2 innings in relief allowing two runs.
Trevor Schreiner picked up the win going 2.1 innings, allowing two walks and one strikeout. Kenneth Stewart picked up the save going 2.2 innings, allowing one hit and struck out five.
The Comets have the final fall game of 2020 on Friday night at Valley City. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:30 pm against the Vikings.
