Mayville, N.D. – Mayville State University Men's Basketball team defeated the Blue Hawks by a final score of 66-58. The Comets move to 9-3 on the regular season and 6-2 in conference play.
The Blue Hawks started on a 9-2 run to start the game that lasted over six minutes of the game. MSU would answer with a 10-3 run to tie the game at 11:35. Over the next five minutes, the Comets would jump out to a 25-19 lead. With the Comets up 10 points with 4:13 left in the first half, Dickinson scored the final six points to cut the lead to four heading into the intermission.
Dickinson State would tie the game at 31 with 16:40 left in the second half before MSU went on a 7-0 run to take the lead back. The Comets would continue to hold a lead throughout most of the second half and extended the lead to double digits with 6:11 left in the game. The Comets would defeat the Blue Hawks for the first time in the 2020-21 season.
The Comets finished the game shooting 36.9 percent from the field, 30.4 percent from behind the arc, and shot 11-for-14 from the free-throw line. They also finished with 30 points in the paint, 22 bench points, 15 points off turnovers, and 10 second-chance points. Latrelle Franklin led MSU in scoring tonight with 15 points, three rebounds, and one assist.
Xavier Towne tallied a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds in the victory. Kieron Goodwin finished the game with nine points, seven rebounds, and one steal. Winder Joseph finished the game with seven points off the bench, with seven rebounds and one steal.
The Comets are back in action tomorrow afternoon as they head to Valley City to face the Vikings. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 pm at the W.E. Osman Fieldhouse.
