Comets drop NSAA game to Vikings on Saturday evening

Valley City, N.D. – The Mayville State University Men's Basketball team dropped a conference game at Valley City State Saturday by a final of 68-94. The Comets drop to 9-4 overall and 6-3 in NSAA play.
 
Both teams started the game fast as both teams scored 20-points in the first seven minutes of the game. Mayville State held a four-point lead with 9:24 in the first half before VCSU tied the game at 30. The Vikings would take a one-point lead with 6:16 left in the half before going on a 20-6 run to finish the half and take a 16-point lead heading into the intermission.
 
Valley City State would hold a 22-point lead early in the second half and would cruise to a 26-point victory over the Comets. With the loss, The Comets are part of a 3-team tie at the top of the conference with Valley City State and Bellevue University. The Comets finished the game shooting 40.6 percent from the field, 31.4 percent from the 3-point line, and tallied nine assists on 26 field goals.
 
Mayville State would also finish with 26 points in the paint, 21 bench points, 12 second-chance points, and two points off turnovers. Latrelle Franklin scored 14 points, one rebound, one assist, and one steal. John Ketchel tallied 12 points, one rebound, two assists, and one steal. Keiron Goodwin was the last Comet player in double figures with 10 points and two rebounds.
 
Najee Brown-Henderson scored eight points and one block off the bench. Paul MacSteves also scored eight points off the bench. Xavier Towne scored seven points, five rebounds, one assist, and one steal. Iker Cruz tallied five rebounds, four points, and one steal in the loss. Winder Joseph recorded four points, four rebounds, and three assists.
 
The Comets are back in action Tuesday night as the Trinity Bible Lions come to the Lewy Lee Fieldhouse for a non-conference matchup. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm on Tuesday.
