Mayville, N.D. – The Mayville State University Women's Basketball team dropped an NSAA game to Viterbo Friday evening by a final score of 56-53. The Comets drop to 11-7 overall and 6-6 in conference play.
After the Comets started the game 6-0, Viterbo tied the game at six a few minutes later. The V-Hawks took a 12-11 lead after the first. A tightly contested first twenty minutes of the game, as the biggest lead in the second quarter was six-points going to the Comets. Viterbo made a basket in the last 10 seconds of the half to cut the lead to four.
Mayville State started the second half on a 7-0 run to extend the lead to 11 with 7:27 left in the third quarter. Viterbo would stop the Comet run and start a 14-0 run that lasted over the last four minutes of the third quarter to take a 3-point lead heading to the fourth quarter. MSU would tie the game at 40 early in the fourth quarter. The V-Hawks would go on an 8-0 run in the middle stages of the fourth quarter to take a nine-point advantage.
The Comets answered with a 7-0 run to cut the Viterbo lead to two with 24 seconds left. Viterbo would knock down one free-throw with two seconds left and pick up a three-point victory over the Comets. The Comets finished the game shooting 37.7 percent from the field, 25.0 percent from the 3-point line, 42 rebounds, and six assists on 20 made field goals.
Jordan Zrust finished the game with a double-double scoring 23 points, 10 rebounds, four blocks, three steals, two assists. Danneka Voegeli finished with 12 points, eight rebounds, and one block. Kayla Rocholl scored eight points, four rebounds, and one steal. Erin Walcker finished with six rebounds, four points, and two assists.
