Comet Softball drops two games in the dome Friday

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Mayville State University Softball team dropped two non-conference games at the Presentation College Dome Friday. The Comets are 0-2 on the regular season. 
 
Game One:
Gutierrez started the game with a triple was thrown out at home on a ground ball to first base. Back-to-back doubles by Kemball and Foster plated the first run of the game. The Comets scored another run in the second inning on one hit. MSU drew three free bases in the inning and scored the second run of the game on a hit-by-pitch.
 
The University of Jamestown scored six runs in the bottom of the second inning on four hits and two Mayville State errors. Back-to-back walks to start the third inning gave the Comets runners on first and second with zero outs. After a ground out to the pitcher and groundout to the shortstop, the Comets had runners on second and third with two outs. An error from the pitcher allowed one run to score and a single by Gutierrez scored the second run of the inning.
 
The Jimmies would score runs in the bottom of the third and fourth inning to extend the lead to 8-4. Ontiveros homered in the top of the seventh inning to left-center to finish the scoring in game one. Mayville State tallied nine hits, five runs, and five walks in the first game. Dayna Gutierrez finished the game with three hits in four at-bats and one run batted in.
 
Alissa Foster tallied two hits and one run batted in. Shaye Kemball, Jocelyn Ontiveros, and Brooke Roeges tallied one hit in the loss. Shaye Kemball took the loss in the game pitching all six innings, allowing 10 hits, five earned runs, three walks, and four strikeouts.
 
Game Two:
The Mustangs started the second game with seven runs in the first inning on four hits and three MSU errors. The Comets answered in the bottom of the inning on a single from Larkin and a double by Kemball that scored Larkin. Morningside would answer with three more runs in the top of the second inning to give them an eight-run lead.
 
The Mustangs would add another run in the top of the third inning on a solo home run to extend the lead to nine. Mayville State would score a run in the bottom of the fifth inning on a bases-loaded walk that scored Spurgeon but the Comets would drop game two by a final of 11-2. MSU finished with two runs on three hits and six errors.
 
Bailey Larkin had one of three hits in the game and one run scored. Shaye Kemball also tallied a hit and two runs batted in. Kalley Partyka recorded the last hit for the Comets in game two. Courtney Boll started in the circle for the Comets last 0.2 innings, allowing three hits, two earned runs, and one strikeout. Sidney Fairbanks pitched 1.2 innings allowing five hits, one earned run, and two walks. Shaye Kemball also pitched in relief for the Comets going 2.2 innings allowing one hit and striking out three.
 
The Comets are back in action tomorrow morning as they play College of Saint Mary at 10:00 am and Dakota Wesleyan at 2:00 pm from the Presentation College Dome.
