Comets drop NSAA game to Bruins Friday Evening

Mayville, N.D. – The Mayville State University Women's Basketball team dropped a conference game to Bellevue University by a final score of 61-72 Friday night. The Comets drop to 11-5 overall and 6-4 in conference play.

A three-pointer midway through the first quarter by Decker pulled the Comets within one point before the Bruins went on an 8-1 run to take a nine-point lead. MSU would answer with six of their own later in the quarter to cut the lead to one. Bellevue led by four after one-quarter of play. The Comets outscored the Bruins by five points in the second quarter to take a one-point lead heading into the halftime intermission.

The game was tied a 38 with 6:18 left in the third quarter before BU went on a 12-2 run to open their first double-digit lead in the game. The Comets would go on a mini-run of 4-0 in the last two minutes of the quarter to cut the lead to five. Bellevue got the lead up to 12 in the fourth quarter and would pick up an 11-point victory over the Comets.

The Comets finished the game shooting 45.3 percent from the field, 29.4 percent from behind the 3-point line, and tallied 15 assists on 24 made field goals. They also finished with 34 points in the paint, 12 points off turnovers, eight second-chance points, five bench points, and two fast-break points. Jordan Zrust finished the game with 18 points, nine rebounds, three assists, and one steal.

Danneka Voegeli finished with 16 points, six rebounds, three blocks, and one steal. Erin Walcker finished with a double-double tonight with 10 points, 10 rebounds, and three assists. CJ Decker was also in double figures for the Comets finishing with 12 points, five rebounds, six assists, and one steal.

The Comets are back in action tomorrow evening at Dakota State in Madison, South Dakota. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 pm against the #21 Trojans.
