Comet Softball drops two close games to Bruins on Friday

Bellevue, Neb. – The Comet Softball team drops two close games to Bellevue University by a final of 6-7 and 0-3. The Comets drop to 2-10 on the regular season and 0-2 in conference play.
 
Game One:
The Comets scored two runs on two hits in the top of the first inning and left one runner on base. After the leadoff walk from Gutierrez, Duval roped a triple to right-center field to take the early 1-0 lead. The next batter, Kemball drove in the second run of the inning on a ground-rule double to left field. Mayville State scored the third run in the top of the second inning on a single from Gutierrez to score Larkin and give MSU a 3-0 lead.
 
Bellevue answered with two runs in the bottom of the second inning on three hits to cut the lead to one. The Bruins scored three more runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 5-3 lead. Mayville State would take the lead in the top of the fifth inning with three runs on two hits. After a leadoff walk to Gutierrez, Duval tripled to right-center for the second time in the game to score the first run. The next batter Kemball reached on a fielder's choice to cut the lead to one.
 
After a double from Foster, Roeges hit a sacrifice fly to center-field to take the lead 6-5. Bellevue would score runs in the bottom of the fifth and walk-off the Comets in the seventh as they drop game one by a final of 6-7. Mackenzie Duval and Bailey Larkin each tallied two hits in game one. Larken scored one run and Duval scored two runs and drove in two runs. Courtney Boll started in the circle for the Comets going 2.2 innings allowing five hits, five earned runs, one walk, and two strikeouts. Sidney Fairbanks took the loss for MSU going four innings, allowing three hits, two earned runs, walking two, and striking out two.
 
Game Two:
The Bruins started the second game scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Bellevue University would score one more run in the bottom of the fourth inning to make it a 3-0 game. The Comets would threaten in the top of the seventh inning by loading the bases with two outs but could not get the tying run across and drop game two by a final score of 0-3.
 
Ashlyn Tingey led the Comet offense in game two with two hits. Bailey Larkin, Kalley Partyka, and Jocelyn Ontiveros each recorded one hit for the Comets in game two. Shaye Kemball picks up the loss in the circle going 3.2 innings allowing four hits, three earned runs, three walks, and one strikeout.
