Mayville, N.D. - The Mayville State Comets completed the four-game sweep over the Presentation College on Saturday winning by a final score of 12-6 and 9-3. The Comets move to 17-8 overall and 6-2 in conference play.
Game One:
The Mayville State Comets started the scoring in the top of the first inning scoring three runs on four hits. McCorrister doubled to left field that scored Hughes to score the first run of the game. The next batter, Villanueva singled in McCorrister to make it 2-0. Two batters later, Garpestad doubled to left field to score Villanueva.
Presentation College answered with one run in the bottom of the first inning. MSU would add two runs to their lead in the top of the second inning on two hits. Hughes hit a two-run home run to left field to extend the lead to 5-1. The Saints answered with two runs in the bottom of the second inning to cut the lead to two. The Comets scored three runs on three hits in the top of the fourth inning to extend the lead to 7-3. Hughes hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Senden, the next batter McCorrister doubled to score Satrom and Ferrera.
The back-and-forth game continued in the bottom of the fourth inning as they scored two runs on three hits. In the top of the fifth inning, Senden singled to left field to score May and Forst to make a four-run game. The Comets added another run in the top of the seventh inning on one PC error. Satrom grounded out to the shortstop that scored Forst. PC scored one run in the bottom of the seventh inning on three hits. MSU added one more run in the top of the ninth on a sacrifice fly from Wohl that scored Forst for a game one victory of 12-6.
Anthony Villanueva finished game one with four hits, one run scored, and one run batted in. Jared McCorrister tallied three hits, one run scored, and three runs batted in. Marcus Hughes and Adam Senden each recorded two hits in the victory. Six other Comets tallied on hit for 17 total hits in the first game.
Game Two:
The Comets scored the first run of the game in the top of the first inning on a passed ball on the Saints. Mayville State added three more runs in the top of the second inning on two hits. Ferrera hit a single up the middle that scored May. Two batters later, Hughes singled to left field that scored Forst and Fererra to take a 4-0 lead. Presentation College scored one run in the bottom of the second inning.
Mayville State scored four runs on three hits in the top of the third inning to open up the game. May singled to center to score Villanueva. Two batters later, Satrom singled to right field and that scored Forst to open up a 6-1 lead. The next batter Ferrera hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Garpestad. The final run of the inning was scored by Satrom on a single from Wohl. The Saints answered the Comets four-run inning with one run to cut the lead to 8-2.
In the top of the sixth inning, the Comets scored one run on a wild pitch from the Saints that scored Villanueva. The Presentation College Saints would score one run in the bottom of the seventh inning but the Comets would sweep the four-game series winning game four by a final score of 9-3. The Comets were led by Theo May with three hits, one run scored, and one run batted in.
Tyler Ferrera tallied two hits, one run scored, and two runs batted in. Sammy Satrom finished game two with one hit, one run scored, and one run batted in. Marcus Wohl tallied one hit and one run batted in. Marcus Hughes recorded one hit and two runs batted in the victory.
