Comets split with Saints on day two of the conference weekend

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Mayville State Comets split with the Saints on Saturday by a final score of 2-1 and 2-4. The Comets move to 13-7 on the regular season and 3-5 in conference play. 

Game One:

Presentation College started the scoring in game one on a solo home run to left-center to take a 1-0 lead over the Comets. Mayville State would enter the scoring column in the top of the sixth inning scoring two runs, on one hit, and two errors. The Comets had a runner on third with one out and Foster grounded out to the shortstop to score Larkin.

The next batter Ontiveros reached on a dropped fly ball from the centerfielder that scored Kemball for the second run of the inning. Courtney Boll finished the game retiring the last seven batter to finish the complete game victory allowing five hits and one earned run. Ashlyn Tingey finished with three hits in three at-bats for the Comets. Mackenzie Duval and Shaye Kemball finished the game with one hit.

Game Two:

Presentation College started game two with four runs in the first inning. Mayville State scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning on two runs and two hits. Duval tripled to start the inning and scored on a double from Duval. Later in the inning, Kemball scored on a fly out to right field.

The Comets started the seventh inning putting the first two runners on base but that was followed by a strikeout and a double play to end the game and drop the final game by a final score of 2-4. Shaye Kemball picked up the loss in the circle going 6.0 innings allowing 11 hits, four earned runs, two walks, and six strikeouts. Brooke Roeges and Shaye Kemball tallied one hit and one run batted in. Ashlyn Tingey, Mackenzie Duval, and Dayna Gutierrez tallied one hit in the loss.

The Comets are back in action next weekend as they travel to Madison, South Dakota to face the Trojans of Dakota State.
