Valley City, N.D. – Parker Stohr pitched a complete game on Friday in the opening round of the NSAA Tournament Friday by a final score of 4-2. The Comets will play Valley City State at 5:30 pm on Saturday.
The Dickinson State Blue Hawks scored in the first run of the game in the top of the first inning on two hits. Mayville State answered with four runs in the bottom of the first inning on three hits. Hughes and McCorrister reached with one out in the inning before a three-run home run from Jared McCorrister to take a 3-1 lead.
The next batter Theo May hit a solo home run to left field to give the Comets a 4-1 lead. The Blue Hawks cut the lead to two in the top of the third inning on a solo home run with two outs in the inning. The Comets had a runner on third base with two out but could not cash in and left the runner in scoring position. Dickinson State would put a runner at third base with one out in the inning but Stohr got a groundout and a flyout to left field to end the Blue Hawk threat.
Parker Stohr was dominant on Friday and retired nine straight batters in the final three innings to pick up the complete game. Stohr went 9.0 innings allowing five hits, two earned runs, and five strikeouts. Jared McCorrister finished the game with two hits and scored one run. Michael Theisen went 1-for-4 with three runs batted in, and one run scored. Theo May tallied one hit, one run batted in, and scored one run.
