Comets miss game-winning shot in conference loss Friday

Viterbo, Wisc. – The Mayville State Men's Basketball dropped a close conference game to first-place V-Hawks on Friday night by a final score of 65-67.

How It Happened:
After 2:30 of the game played in the first half, MSU and VU were tied at six. Over the next two minutes, Viterbo would take a four-point lead on MSU. Mayville State would take a one-point lead two minutes later a 3-point basket from Franklin.
The game was tied later in the first half at 19 before the V-Hawks would take a 6-point lead on the Comets with 7:28 remaining in the first half. Mayville State would cut the lead down to one on a layup from Griffin with 5:30 remaining in the half.
The V-Hawks would finish the half strong and would take a 9-point lead heading into the halftime break. Viterbo would start the second half strong extending their lead to 14 in the first two minutes of the half.
Mayville State would start their comeback at the 16-minute mark of the second half when MSU went on a 5-0 run to cut the lead to six. Kramer would make a 3-pointer with 9:52 remaining in the game would make it a one-point game.
The game was tied at 64 with 1:18 left in the game as Viterbo would take a 2-point lead with 30 seconds left in the game. Franklin was fouled on a shot attempt with 14 seconds left in the game and only made one free throw. On the ensuing possession, Franklin forced a turnover but would miss the game-winning shot and dropped a conference game to the V-Hawks.
The Comets finished the game shooting 38.6 percent from the field, 25.9 percent from behind the 3-point line, pulled in 38 rebounds, and dished out 6 assists.
They also finished the game with 28 points in the paint, 15 points off turnovers, 14 second-chance points, and 9 bench points.
