Boll struck out a career-high 12 batters, as Comets split with Vikings

Casselton, N.D. – Courtney Boll tallied a career-high in strikeouts in game two of the doubleheader to force a split with the Vikings on Wednesday afternoon at Central Cass High School.

How It Happened: Game One
Valley City State used the long ball to start game one of the doubleheader on Wednesday but scoring their first three runs of the game.
Mayville State would score one run in the fourth inning on a Yamamoto single that scored Iverson to cut it to a two-run game. In the fifth inning, Hughes hit her first home run of the season to make it a 2-3 game with two innings left.
Valley City State would score four runs in the top of the sixth inning as the Vikings would take game one by a final score of 2-7.

How It Happened: Game Two
After Boll stranded a runner at third with less than two outs, the Comets would score their first run of the game on a Fierro solo home run to make it a 1-0 lead.
The Vikings would tie the game in the top of the third inning as the teams were deadlocked at one after three innings. We were tied at one until the fifth inning when the Vikings hit back-to-back solo home runs to take a 2-run lead.
The Comets offense would explode in the sixth inning when a double from Mathews scored Iverson to make it a one-run game, followed by a double from Hughes that scored Stegman and Fierro to give MSU a one-run lead.
Two batters later, Roeges would hit a two-run triple that scored Larkin and Hughes to make it a three-run game and on the following pitch, Roeges scored on a wild pitch to make it a 4-run lead heading into the final inning.
Valley City State would hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning, but it wasn't enough as the Comets would force a split on Wednesday.
