Comets score 28 runs in doubleheader split against Trojans Sunday

Madison, S.D. – The Mayville State University Softball team split the second day of the conference weekend against the Trojans Sunday afternoon by a final score of 17-18 and 11-4.

How It Happened: Game One
Ontiveros started the scoring in the first inning on a two-run home run that scored Duval. Dakota State followed up with two runs in the bottom of the first inning.
The Comet would score two more runs in the top of the second inning on an error and a single from Duval. The Trojans would score five runs in the bottom of the third inning to give them a 7-4 lead heading into the fourth inning.
The Comets would have a big inning of their own in the fourth inning by scoring five runs and taking the lead back. Highlighted by a Hughes single, Howell RBI, and Yamamoto single.
In this high-scoring game, the Trojans would take the lead back in the fourth inning by scoring three runs. The Comets would add four runs in the fifth inning to give them a 3-run lead off of a Roeges triple and Fierro double.
The back-and-forth game would continue as Dakota State would score five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take back a 2-run lead. Back-to-back rbi doubles from Ontiveros and Tigey tied the game at 15 heading into the bottom of the sixth. The Trojans would instantly take the lead back in the bottom of the sixth inning by scoring two runs.
The Comets would continue to fight as Ontiveros would get hit by the pitch with the bases loaded to close the lead to one but could not score any more runs in the inning and would drop the high scoring affair by 1 run.

How It Happened: Game Two
Ontiveros started the scoring in game two with a rbi groundout that scored Roeges. In the third inning, MSU would add three more runs on an Ontiveros 3-run home run to give MSU a 4-0 lead.
The very next inning, Ontiveros continued her strong day with a rbi single that scored Larkin. Later in the inning, Tingey grounded into a double play that scored Roeges.
The Comets offense would continue to put up runs throughout the second game and would take the final game of the series by a final score of 11-4.
