Comet Softball uses long ball to pick up a doubleheader sweep of the Warriors

Casselton, N.D. – The Mayville State Softball uses the long ball to secure a doubleheader sweep against the Warriors on Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened: Game One
The Waldorf Warriors started the scoring in the first game of the doubleheader on Saturday by scoring four runs in the top of the third inning.
The Comets would answer in the bottom of the third inning on a single from Duval that would score Larkin to make it a 1-4 game. Later in the inning, Ontiveros doubled to right field and on the throw, Duval scored the second run of the game.
Yamamoto reached base later in the third inning on an error from the Warriors that scored Ontiveros to make it a one-run game. Mayville State would take the lead in the fourth inning on a two-run home run from Roeges. Pino added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a solo home run to make it a 2-run game.

How It Happened: Game Two
The Waldorf Warriors would score one run in the top of the first inning to take an early lead on the Comets.
The Comets would answer with six runs in the bottom of the first inning on a single from Ontiveros that scored Larkin, followed by a single to right field from Tingey that scored Roeges to take a 2-1 lead. The next batter Yamamoto singled to left field to score Ontiveros to make it a 2-run game.
Later in the first inning, Stegman reached on an error that allowed Tingey to score to make a 4-1 game. The final two runs of the inning were scored on a single from Mathews that scored Stegman and Yamamoto.
The Comets continued the scoring in the second inning by scoring two more runs and a rbi groundout from Ontiveros that scored Duval and a hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Tingey to make it an 8-1 game.
In the third inning, MSU used the long ball to score runs as they had back-to-back solo home runs from Ontiveros and Tingey to make it a 10-1 game. A double from Stegman followed by two errors allowed Pino and Stegman to score. Sadie Mathews hit her first home run of the season in the third inning to make it 13-1. The Comets would add one more run in the bottom of the fourth inning to win game two by mercy rule 14-1.
