Box Score Dickinson, N.D. - The Comets Men's Basketball team traveled to Dickinson to take part in the Coca-Cola Classic, with their first opponent being the Carroll College Saints. Mayville State led wire to wire, using a fast start to win 84-74.
The Comets stormed out of the gates and sprinted out to a 15-4 lead after five minutes.
Jamison Kramer scored the first eight points for Mayville State during that run.
The lead got to as high as 29-10 with just over seven minutes left in the half, but Carroll started to chip away at that lead.
The Saints scored 15 straight points in the last four minutes of the half to get within two points at 40-38. Kramer poured in 19 points to pace the Comets attack.
There were no big runs for either team in the second half, as the Comets slowly expanded their lead. Carroll closed to within a basket multiple times, only to see the Comets score on the next possession.
The decisive stretch started with just under nine minutes to play where Mayville State held the Saints scoreless for four minutes and boosted their lead to 15 at 73-58. The lead stayed in double digits the rest of the game for an 84-74 victory.
Kramer had a career-high night with 34 points on 15 of 21 shooting from the field and grabbed 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the season.
Thomas Gieske added 17 points and eight boards, and
Stevan Garza finished with 12 points.
Juan Carlos Canahuate dished out 9 assists for the game.
The win bumps the Comets record to 8-2. Mayville State faces another Frontier Conference opponent in the Montana Western Bulldogs on Saturday, tip off is 6:00pm.
