Mayville, N.D. - The Comets Men's Basketball team hosted the St. Boniface Les Rouge at the Lewy Lee on Sunday afternoon.
Jamison Kramer reached a significant milestone in a comfortable 131-44 victory.
The Comets opened the game by scoring the first 23 points and held St. Boniface scoreless until the 14 minute mark.
With 13:45 remaining, Kramer converted a layup which gave him 1501 points for his over career between Bismarck State College and his time at Mayville State!
Mayville State expanded their lead and finished the first half with a 15-1 run to lead 65-18. The Comets shot a sizzling 69% from the field and forced 15 turnovers in the first half.
Mayville State did not let up and ripped off a 15-2 rally to open the second half. A
Steele Senske three pointer with just under 11 minutes to go put the Comets over the century mark. All 14 Comets saw time in the second half, with 11 of them scoring to cruise to the 131-44 win.
The Comets excelled in every facet of the game, shooting 68% from the field, out rebounding St. Boniface 59-19 and collecting 28 assists to only nine turnovers.
Kramer made all 11 shots he attempted and led seven Comets in double figures with 22 points.
Jesse Bergh and
Nick Michaelson poured in 16 points apiece,
Stevan Garza added 12 points,
Darren Calhoun finished with 11 and
Jacob Strand and
Darren Jones scored 10 each.
Calhoun grabbed seen rebounds,
Devin Griffin dished out 11 assists, Strand racked up 5 steals and Bergh blocked three shots.
The Comets record now stands at 12-3 with the win. Mayville State opens their North Star conference schedule against the Viterbo V-Hawks at home on Friday evening at 7:30pm.
"We'll have our hands full this weekend as Viterbo was picked second in our league and Waldorf is a very hard nosed team," said McGruder. "We're excited to start NSAA play but understand we have a lot to improve on. Everything is magnified now so every loos ball, mixed box out and free throw matter."
