Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Jordan Olson, SID

Men's Basketball falls to Mount Marty 84-77 in first road game

Yankton, S.D. - Mayville State Comets Men's Basketball hit the road for the first time this season taking on the Mount Marty Lancers in Yankton, SD.

A Lancer's strong late second half push would be the deciding factor and the Comets would fall 77-84.

Mayville State trailed by 5 at the half and Mount Marty outscored them by just 2 points in the second.

"Mount Marty did a heck of a job tonight in their execution and discipline," said head coach Brandon McGruder. "They really disrupted us and were the more physical team for 40 minutes."

The Comets shot 42.6% from the floor on the night going just 26-61. They shot 72% from the free throw line and 38.9% behind the arc.

Darren Jones had his second double double of the season scoring 16 points and having 10 rebounds.

Jones, double timing sports right now, played in the men's basketball game last night and will play in the football game against Valley City today.

Trey Swayzer followed close behind with 16 points and 9 rebounds. He also had 1 steal.

London Williams had 16 points, 6 rebounds and 3 blocks on the night.

JJ White had 13 points, 4 steals, and was 3-8 from being the arc, leading the Comets at the 3 point line.

Comets Stats:
Points off turn overs: 14
Second chance points: 16
Bench points: led 39
Points in the paint: 36
Largest lead: 4

"They [Lancers] won individual match ups and exposed us in a lot of ways," added a frustrated McGruder. "I have to be better as a coach, getting my guys ready to compete because we played with a lack of desire and were very undisciplined."

The Comets will return to action next Friday and Saturday where they will travel to the Pizza Ranch Classic hosted by Northwestern College (Iowa). They will take on Dordt University at 3:00pm Friday & Northwestern at 4:00pm on Saturday.
