Omaha, Neb. – Comet Baseball took on the No. 16 Bellevue Bruins on Saturday for Game 3 and 4 of their conference series match up.
The Bruins offense would be too much for the Comets pitching staff and they take both games, sweeping the series.
Game 3: L 23-4
Bellevue would start the game off by scoring 10 runs in the top of the first and add 6 more in the 4
th.
The Comets would find some light in the bottom of the 4
th when
Marcus Hughes would draw a walk to lead the inning off.
Chris Shopbell would keep his hitting hot and blast a 2 run home run to left center.
The Bruins would respond in the top of the 3
rd and plate 3 to extend their lead 21-2.
Zachary Evanochko led the 5
th off with a solo home run to right field and that would be the last run the Comets would be able to tally.
Bellevue tacked on 3 more in the 7
th and would take the game 24-3.
The Bruins held the Comets to just three hits, two of those home runs.
Game 4: L 20-7
Bellevue would score in 8 of 9 innings to continue their hot offensive day, sweeping the series.
The Comets bats found some life in Game 4, scoring 7 runs on 10 hits.
Chris Shopbell stayed hot at the plate, going 2-3 with his second home run of the day. 6 Comets would at least tally a one hit in Game 4.
Mayville State will host Valley City State next Friday and Saturday for senior weekend and it will be their last series of conference play.
