Jamestown, N.D. - Mayville State Comet Baseball hit the road for the first time this fall, where they headed to the University of Jamestown for a single game Wednesday afternoon.
"It was a tough one today. Jamestown came out with a lot of fire and really just took it to us. Radkey was really good on the mound for them today and neutralized us offensively," said head coach
Billy Tomblin.
Walks and errors were the deciding factors in this one, as the Jimmies scored 12 runs on 8 hits, 8 walks, and 3 Comet errors.
"We had some mental mistakes defensively today that I do not feel we had on Sunday and ultimately they played a major factor in the result of the game today," added Tomblin.
Transfer
Jalen Denton led the game off with a double and he would eventually score off of a Cam Goff ground ball to short.
With two outs in the bottom of the first, the Jimmies were able to plate across one run off of a bases loaded walk, tying things up 1-1.
It would be all Jamestown from there on as they tacked on 5 more runs in the second, 4 more in the fourth and 2 more runs in the fifth.
The Comets did manage to score another run in the top of the 4th, but that is all their offense would put together.
As a coaching staff, we need to do a much better job of in game management and player preparation going into game day," said Tomblin. "Today was unacceptable and we, as a coaching staff, need to be better for the guys."
Chris Shopbell - 2-2, 1 run
Cameron Goff - 1-3, 1 RBI, 1 2B
Carson Lundmark - Sac Fly RBI
The Comets will host Dickinson State University this Saturday at Scott Berry Field in a double header. First pitch is set for 1pm.
