Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Mayville, N.D. - Mayville State Comets Baseball hosted the Dickinson State Blue Hawks on Saturday for two, seven inning games where they dominated offensively scoring 23 runs and hitting 6 home runs.

"It was good to see the offense do what they did today," said head coach Billy Tomblin. "I truly believe that is what we are capable of doing on a regular basis."

Game 1 - W 8-2

The Blue Hawks would get on the board first after scoring a run on a passed ball. After that it would be all Comets.

In the bottom of the second, Zachary Evanochko lead off with a single. Tony Villarreal would find his way to first with a single putting runners at 1st and 2nd for Jack McQueen.

McQueen hit a single, scoring both Evanochko and Villarreal making it 2-1 Comets.

Dickinson State tied it up in the top of the fourth but the Comets would respond by putting up six runs on six hits to make the score 8-2 in the bottom of the fourth.

The explosive fourth inning would come from a Villarreal double, Brock Barlow home run, Jalen Denton single, Chris Shopbell double, Carson Lundmark triple and a home run from Evanochko.

Evanochko - 2-2, 2 RBI, 1 HR
C. Lundmark - 1-3, 2 RBI, 1 Trip
Barlow - 1-3, 2 RBI, 1 HR
McQueen - 1-3, 2 RBI

Garret Lundmark got the start on the mound. He went 3 innings pitched, gave up 5 hits, 1 earned run, 2 walks and struck out 7.

Jaxon Parker would get the W on the mound for the Comets as he came in to relieve Lundmark. He pitched 4 innings, giving up zero runs, just 3 hits and 2 walks.

Game 2 - W 15-9

The Comet bats would explode in game two, where they scored in every inning except one. They scored 15 runs off of 16 hits.

In the first inning, the Comets put up 7 runs, 3 of which came from Evanochko's 3 run home run, his second of the day.

Heading into the bottom of the 3rd, the score sitting at 9-1 Comets, Carson Lundmark would blast a 3 run home run to put Mayville State up 12-1.

In the fourth, Shopbell would hit the Comets 5th home run of the day, extending their lead 14-4.

Dickinson State rallied in the 5th inning, putting up 5 runs to cut their deficit to five runs, however, that is as close as they would get.

Jalen Denton added one more run for the Comets in the bottom of the sixth with a solo home run making the final score 15-9.

Denton - 2-5, 3 RBI, 1 2B, 1 HR
Shopbell - 3-5, 2 RBI, 1 HR
C. Lundmark - 4-5, 4 RBI, 1 2B, 1 HR
Z. Evanochko - 1-2, 3 RBI, 1 HR

Derek Palmiere got the start on the mound in game two for the Comets. He went 4 innings, giving up 6 earned runs on 5 hits, walking 3 but striking out 4.

Marshall Judisch would snag the save for the Comets, relieving Brady Robinson. Judisch pitched 3 innings giving up just 1 hit, no runs, striking out 2 and only walking 1.

"Defensively, we had a few miscues that we need to get cleaned up but it was still an improvement from Wednesday," added Tomblin. "On the mound we just need to be more aggressive pounding the zone and force opposing offenses to swing their way to runs; we had too many free ones today."

The Comets hit the road this Wednesday taking on the Jamestown Jimmies in a single game. First pitch has been moved up to 3pm.
