MAYVILLE, N.D. — Mayville State hosted No. 6 ranked Montana Tech Friday night where they fell 75–63 to the Orediggers.
Mayville State trailed by eight at halftime but opened the second half with a strong push. A layup by Isaiah Smith cut the deficit to 39-38, the closest the Comets had been since the opening minutes.
But Montana Tech quickly regained control and answered with back-to-back three-pointers as part of a decisive run that stretched the lead to nine. The Orediggers held a double-digit advantage for much of the closing stretch, buoyed by 42 points in the paint and 34 points from their bench.
Mayville State was led by Darius Brant, who turned in a standout performance with 27 points, 10 rebounds, and two steals. Malik Siggers added 15 points off the bench, and Christian Bowen-Webb scored nine, all from three-point range.
The Comets shot 42.4 percent from the floor and 35 percent from beyond the arc. Montana Tech countered with 50.8 percent shooting and a perfect 4-for-4 night at the free-throw line.
The Comets are back in action tomorrow as they host No. 24 Montana Western at 7:00pm. For full schedule details visit: https://msucomets.com/sports/mens-basketball/schedule
