Mayville, N.D. - Mayville State Comets Men's Basketball returned home to the Lewy Lee this Friday and Saturday.
The Comets hosted the Dakota State Trojans on Friday and fell in a nail biter 70-67. They then squared off with the Bellevue Bruins and pulling out the win 81-71.
Friday night would come down to the final minutes of the game to decide a winner. The Trojans remained in control, leading 28-22 in the first half.
The Comets came out of the locker room after halftime knowing they needed to chip away. Despite outscoring Dakota State 45-42 in the second half, they couldn't come away with the win.
The Trojans were 23-64 from the field and 9-34 from behind the arc. Mayville State was nearly the same as they were 22-64 from the field. However, the Comets made only 3 of their 16 three point attempts.
Scoring was scattered throughout the entire team with Londay Williams leading the way with 11 points and Steven Garza,
John White, Jr. and
Tim Oldham each having 10.
The Comets had a quick turn around Saturday with a 5:00pm tip off against the Bruins.
Mayville State would come out hot in the first half and lead the entire game. They entered halftime ahead by 19.
Bellevue outscored the Comets in the second half 41-32 but Mayville State was able to hold them off and get their 14th win of the season.
John White, Jr. led the Comets with 18 points and Steven Garza followed closely behind with 15.
Overall, the Comets shot 61.7% from the field, 57.1% from behind the arc and went 67.9% at the line. They led the night in all categories.
The Comets now sit at 14-9 overall and 5-4 in the NSAA where they are in third place and two games back behind Jamestown.
Mayville State will host Dickinson State next Friday and 7:30pm and the University of Jamestown at 5:00pm on Saturday.
