Bellevue, Neb. - Mayville State University Comets Women's Basketball played their final road game of the regular season Saturday afternoon. They played the Bellevue Bruins at their brand new gymnasium that had just opened the night before.
Jes Mertens would explode offensively and defensively in the Comets 92-81 win over the Bruins. Mertens scored a career high 42 points, had 7 defensive rebounds, 5 assists, 3 blocks and 2 steals on the night.
1st Quarter:
- It would be all Mayville State, outscoring Bellevue 29-10
- Mertens would put up 18 of those 29 points; she was 7-7 from the field
- Comets led by 10 midway
- Mertens nails a 3 at the end of the quarter, to give the Comets a 19 point lead
2nd Quarter:
- Quiet quarter for the Comets, Bellevue outscored them 20-15
- Mertens scores just 3 points, putting her at 21 in the first half

Gracie Kaczynski goes 2-3 from the floor for a quick 4 points
- Bellevue quietly chips away but the Comets remain in control leading 44-30 heading into the locker room

Alex Page opens up the second half with a sinker behind the arc
- Bellevue gets within 8 at one point; Comets led by as much at 17 in the quarter
- Comets outscore the Bruins 25-24 in the quarter to remain ahead by 15
- Mertens turns back on her offense with a quick 11 points
4th Quarter:
- Page opens the quarter with a lay up to extend the Comets lead to 17

Mackenzie Hughes lays it in to give the Comets the largest lead of the night with 23
- The Bruins go on an 11-0 run in the final 2 and a half minutes of the game
- Despite Bellevue outscoring Mayville State 27-25 in the quarter, the Comets hold the Bruins off for the win
- Mertens put up 10 in the quarter to get to 42 points overall
