Mayville, N.D. - The Mayville State University Comets Women's Basketball team hosted the Dickinson State University Blue Hawks on Friday night.
Mayville State improved to 16-7 overall after their 95-59 win over the Blue Hawks.
1st Quarter:
- Comets would out score the Blue Hawks 31-18
- Dickinson State's Kayden Steele scores 11 of the team's 18 points
- Hughes scores 9 points, has 4 rebounds & is 3-5 from the field
- Page sinks 8 points & is perfect from the field, at the line & behind the arc
2nd Quarter:
- Mayville State outscores Dickinson State 20-12
- Steele puts up 10 of the Blue Hawks' 12 points, scoring 21 first half points
- Page and Hughes both put up 7 points
- Mertens scores 4 points with 2 steals, 2 assists & 3 rebounds
- Comets led 51-30 at the half
3rd Quarter:
- The Comets defense holds the Blue Hawks to just 9 points
- Mayville State gets on fire with a 28 point quarter
- Page goes 5-7 from the field, scoring 10 points & grabbing 5 defensive rebounds
- Hughes goes 4-6 from the field, scoring 10 and snagging 3 steals
4th Quarter:
- Dickinson State outscores the Comets for the first time, 20-16
- 7 different Comets score in the 4thÂ
- Comets hold Dickinson State's Kayden Steel to just 3 second half points after she scores 21 in the first half
- Mayville State holds off the Blue Hawks & gets the win
Overall:
Comets shoot 33-68 from the field, 9-30 from behind the arc and 20-23 at the line
Team Leaders:
Mackenzie Hughes - 11-17, 28 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals, 3 assists
Alex Page - 9-14, 25 points, 10 rebounds (all defensive)
Jes Mertens - 16 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals, 3 assists
The Comets will be tested tomorrow as they host the Jamestown Jimmies! Tip off is set for 3:00pm.
