Comets WBB bumps into 2nd place in NSAA after win over (RV) Jamestown Saturday

Mayville, N.D. - After Mayville State's Friday night win over Dickinson State University, the Comets would face off for a 2nd place spot against the Jamestown Jimmies.

Mackenzie Hughes and Alex page would have another big duo night combining for 52 points boosting the Comets to a 72-59 win over the Jimmies.

1st Quarter:
- Jimmies struggle to find any offensive moment and score just 9 points
- Hughes starts it off going 3-4 from the field, scoring 11 points
- Jes Mertens brought the defense,  having 1 block, 1 steal & 4 rebounds
- Comets outscore the Jimmies 20-9

2nd Quarter:
- Jimmies turn on their offense and defense, scoring 16 points and holding the Comets to just 8
- Only 3 Comets score in the quarter
- Mayville State shot 3-13 from the field, they were 1-6 behind the arc
- Comets lead 28-25 heading into halftime 

3rd Quarter:
- Page goes 3-3 from the field, scoring 8 points and grabbing 3 rebounds, she also had 2 blocks
- Annika Reierson turns it on with a quick 7 points going 3-3 from the field
- Hughes adds 6 points
- Comets head into the 4th quarter leading 51-44

4th Quarter:
- Mayville State outscores the Jimmies for the 3rd time tonight 21-15
- Page has another hot offensive quarter putting up 11 points; she was 5-6 from the field and added 2 more blocks
- Mertens had 2 blocks and 4 rebounds
- Mayville State holds off late efforts by the Jimmies and get the W 72-59

The Comets improve to 17-7 overall and 7-5 in conference play. They move just one game ahead of Jamestown for 2nd place in the NSAA standings with 3 regular season games to go. Mayville State will hit the road next weekend as they take on the No. 6 Dakota State Trojans on Friday and the Bellevue Bruins on Saturday.
