Dickinson, N.D. - The Comets Golf team traveled to Dickinson to take part in the Blue Hawk Invitational, the first Frontier Conference golf tournament of 2025. Both teams battled hard and finished in 6th place.
Day one for the men was 36 holes, which was a new challenge for the Comets to overcome. The day started at 9am and wrapped up just before sunset at 7pm.
Satchel Tickel ripped off five birdies in his 2nd round of the day to shoot a four under 68, leaving him tied for fifth after 36 holes. Michael Felchle fired rounds of 77 and 79 and
Erik Bjorndahl shot 81-80 on day 1.
On the women's side, both
Annika Reierson and
Bethany Holter shot personal bests of 89 and 99 respectively, while
Kambree Hauglie finished with a 91. The women finished Day one with an 18-hole team score of 382.
"I follow the philosophy of avoiding big numbers is the key to good scoring and today was a great example of that," said head coach
John Murphy. "Ani and Bethany did a great job of avoiding big numbers and that consistency paid off with personal bests."
On Day two, there was a lot of jockeying on the men's side for team positioning but in the end both teams remained in 6th place as a team. Tickel shot 74 to finish in the top 10 with a 3-day total of 214, while Bjorndahl finished strong with a 76.
Hauglie started day 2 with 5 pars in 6 holes and finished with an 89 while
Isabel Helde knocked eight shots off her day one total with a 96.
"36 holes in day one with a quick turnaround the next day was a challenge for the men. They battled hard and this experience will help us in future Frontier events. Both Kambree and Isabel really started well and that helped them get some momentum for the day," added Murphy.
The Comets make their first trip to Montana to the Beartooth Invitational in Laurel, Montana on September 28th and 29th.Â
