Winter Haven, Fla. – The Mayville State Comets took two games from Cornerstone University (Mich.) on Saturday before splitting a doubleheader with No. 18 Concordia University (Neb.) on Monday.
The Comets, winners of nine of their last 10 games, continue to produce offensively while delivering strong performances on the mound.
In Saturday's opening game against Cornerstone, Aleks Koppel started on the mound and went the full five innings, allowing just two runs on six hits while striking out seven. Jack Antonio and Kyler Droog combined to pitch the final two innings, giving up just one run to secure the win.
At the plate, Cam Goff and Kevin Conway combined for five hits and three RBIs to lead the Comets to a 4–3 victory.
Game two belonged entirely to Mayville State. The Comets erupted for nine runs in the fourth inning and added four more in the fifth on their way to a 16–3 win and a sweep of Cornerstone. Eight different Comets recorded hits, and seven of them drove in at least one run.
On the mound, Jaxon Parker pitched five innings, allowing three runs on three hits while striking out four. Benjamin Larson and Rylee Hams each added an inning of relief, surrendering no hits and no runs.
On Monday, the Comets faced GPAC opponent Concordia University, currently ranked No. 18 in the country.
Four Mayville State pitchers combined to hold the Bulldogs to just eight hits and four runs. Offensively, six different Comets recorded RBIs as the team tallied 11 hits to take game one from the ranked Bulldogs, extending their winning streak to nine games.
Game two featured a strategic pitching duel, with seven pitchers appearing between the two teams. Ultimately, Concordia managed to plate six runs across six innings to secure a 6–4 victory and earn the split.
