Winter Haven, Fla. – Mayville State Comets Baseball got off to a good start at the RussMatt Invitational where they took two from Lawrence Tech Friday.
Game 1 W – 9-0
Garret Lundmark was dominant on the mound, racking up 11 strikeouts allowing just three hits and zero runs over seven innings while walking one.
The Comets racked up 9 runs on 9 hits rom 6 different players.
Kevin Conway and
Jack McQueen each drove in 3 runs followed by 2 from
Zachary Evanochko.
Mayville State played clean defense, committing no errors.
Game 2 W 7-3
The Blue Devils finally found some offense in game two, but the Comets would continue to stay consistent at the plate scoring 7 runs on 7 hits.
Comet offense was led by
Juan Villarreal who wen 3-4 at the plate and had 3 RBIs. Conway stayed hot, driving in 2 more runs on the day.
Sebastian Mizener got the win on the mound, he allowed 3 hits and two runs over four innings and struck out three.
Tyler Boden came in to pitch in the 5
th, striking out 4 while allowing 4 sprinkled hits and 1 earned run.
Kyler Droog closed things up in the top of the 7
th, facing three batters and striking all three of them out.
The Comets are back in action tomorrow morning early against Cornerstone University. Game one will be played at 8:45am (CT) with game two shortly following.
