The Comets Football team looked to build on their season opening victory by hosting the #17 Valley City Vikings for the Mayor's Cup.
The first quarter was a defensive struggle, as the only scoring came from a 26 yard FG by Valley's Lucas Nordblum. The Vikings expaned the lead to 10-0 with a Jacob Duilio 4 yard TD plunge, where the score remained until 90 seconds left to halfime. Kurtis Walls found D.J. Edwards for TD catches of 42 and 39 yards sandwiched around a successful onside kick and just like that the lead ballooned to 24-0. The Vikings were able to tack on another FG by Nordblum on the last play of the half to make the score 27-0.
Turnovers plagued the Comets in this game, and the Vikings wore down the Comet defense in the 3rd. Walls connected with Josh Tovar for 1 yard and Mark Zinke for 9 yards to put the Vikings up 41-0. Josh Hansana found the end zone on a 9 yard scramble to finish the scoring in the 3rd quarter.

Jacob Lawrence for a 25 yard strike early in the fourth to get the Comets on the board. Damario Fair rounded out the scoring with a 1 yard dive, and the Vikings retain the Mayor's Cup with a 55-6 victory.

Jerril Jenkins carried the ball 12 times for 57 yards,
Dantrel Horne caught 6 passes for 74 yards and
Ryan Henderson piled up 14 tackles to lead the Comets.
Walls posted a line of 26/39/291/4, Duilio rumbled for 176 and a TD, Edwards hauled in 5 passes for 79 yards and 2 scores, and Andre Peppers collected 8 tackles and intercepted 2 passes to lead the Vikings.
The Comets are now 1-1 on the season, and look to rebound against Trinity Bible College next Saturday. The Vikings now stand at 2-0 and will host Robert Morris next Saturday.Â
