Helena, Mont. - The Frontier Conference held it's 2026 Football Media Day on Wednesday. Scott Crawford and Rocky Erickson sat down with head coach Rocky Larson and senior leaders Xyler Carlson & Kelby Azure to discuss the upcoming season.

Mayville State football enters the 2026 season with plenty of experience and a chance to take the next step under head coach Rocky Larson.

The Comets return 18 starters from last season's 5-6 team, including 10 starters on offense. Mayville State also brings back 98 percent of its rushing production and every pass catcher from a year ago.

"We've got a much different camp when you have that much older of a group," Larson said. "It's not as much teaching. It's more refining your craft and continuing to attack."

Defensively, the Comets return eight players who saw significant playing time last season, totaling more than 150 career starts. Seniors Kelby Azure and Xyler Carlson headline that veteran group.

Mayville State will face a challenging schedule, including six road games in five states. The Comets open non-conference play against Briar Cliff before traveling to Oklahoma Panhandle State.

The Comets will also utilize digital wristbands for play communication this season. Larson said the new technology has already made an impact during camp.

"We're really pleased with it," Larson said. "We won't huddle. We can play as fast as our kids can read now."

With experience returning across the roster, Mayville State enters 2026 looking to turn last year's close losses into wins and make a push in the Frontier Conference.
