Mayville, N.D. – Mayville State University head football coach
Rocky Larson and his staff have announced the addition of 31 recruits as part of the Comets' 2026 signing class.
Unlike previous years, the emphasis for this class was not on numbers, but on fit.
"We did not need a big signing class with 98 student-athletes already on campus," said Larson. "We wanted to find the right fit for how we play on offense and defense. This is the first time we could be selective on who we wanted to bring in."
Entering his sixth season at the helm, Larson's program continues to show steady growth, highlighted by both strong retention and graduation rates.
"I'm really proud of our retention to be able to keep 98 student-athletes going through spring football," Larson added. "This is a huge step in the growth of the program, and spring football will be very competitive this year."
Of the 31 signees, 16 hail from North Dakota — a continued point of emphasis in the Comets' recruiting philosophy. Larson and his staff have remained committed to building the program with in-state talent while supplementing with key additions from outside the region.
The coaching staff anticipates signing an additional 10 to 12 recruits to round out the class. However, the transfer portal has slowed the overall recruiting landscape, creating a more deliberate process across the board.
With a strong returning core and a targeted recruiting class, the Comets appear well-positioned as they continue building momentum heading into the 2026 season.
