CONFERENCE CHAMPS! Women's Basketball defeats Trojans in NSAA Championship

Watertown, S.D. – The Mayville State Comets defeat the Dakota State Trojans to win the NSAA Conference Tournament. The Comets will advance to the NAIA National Tournament with the first and second round of the tournament scheduled for March 7 & 8. The Selection show is scheduled for March 2nd at 6:00 pm.

How It Happened:
The Comets started slow on Sunday afternoon, as the Trojans started on a 7-0 run but the Comets fought right back and took the lead at 13-12 with 5:48 left in the first quarter. The Comets would finish the first quarter on a 14-0 run and took a 10-point lead heading into the second quarter.
Mayville State continued to extend the lead in the second quarter including a 20-point lead with 3:18 left in the first half on a 3-point basket. Walcker hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give MSU a 17-point lead into halftime.
Dakota State started to make there run in the third quarter as they Trojans went 12-3 run over the last 4:24 of the third quarter and cut the lead to 11 at the end of the third quarter. The Trojans continued to cut into the lead and cut the lead to four with 7:04 left in the game. It was a five-point game with 1:16 left in the game but some clutch free-throw shooting gave MSU win and an automatic berth.
The Comets finished the game shooting 44.0 percent from the field, 50.0 percent from behind the 3-point line, pulled in 31 rebounds, and 16 assists. They also had 18 points in the paint, 17 points off turnovers, and 2 second chance points.
