Dickinson, N.D. - Mayville State University Volleyball kicked off their final weekend on the road Thursday night as they took on the Dickinson State Blue Hawks in Scott Gymnasium.

The Comets struggled to get their offense going most of the night, eventually falling to the Blue Hawks in three sets (18-25, 15-25, 23-25). 

"Offensively, we struggled tonight and looking forward we need to find ways to score no matter who is across the net from us," said head coach Katie Aasen.

In set one, the Comets led 4-3 early, but the Blue Hawks went on a 6-0 run to go up 9-4. The closest Mayville State would get from this point on was within three and Dickinson State would take set one 18-25.

Set two started off similar to set one, the Comets held an early lead 5-3 until the Blue Hawks went on a 4-0 run to take the lead 7-5. Mayville State knotted things up 8-8 and after that it was all Dickinson State, taking game two from the Comets 25-15.

Looking to stay alive in set three, the Comets battled down to the wire. The score was tied seven times and there were four lead changes, but the Blue Hawks would close out the night with the win, 25-23.

"It's been a tough three weeks on the road. As a coaching staff we are continuing to work on creating a winning mindset within our players," said Aasen.

The Comets will take on undefeated No. 2 Jamestown tomorrow at 7pm in Jamestown.
