Men's Basketball gets win over Blazers Friday night

Mayville, N.D. - Mayville State University Men's Basketball returned to the Lewy Lee Fieldhouse Friday night for a non-conference match up against the Canadian Mennonite Blazers. 

Four different Comets scored in double figures, boosting Mayville State to a 95-61 victory over the Blazers.

It would take Mayville State a while to get their offense rolling, but John White, Jr. led things for the Comets in the first half, scoring 13 points.

Stevan Garza and Justin Fisher followed behind closely, each scoring 8 in the first 20 minutes of play.

Darren Jones broke out offensively in the second half, scoring 17 points and shooting 7-9 from the field.

White, Jr. added 10 more points to his stat line as he went 4-4 from the field and 2-2 from behind the arc. He scored a season high 23 points.

And Garza would add 11 points to his previous 8, giving him a season high of 19.

Overall, the Comets were 40-69 (58%) from the field and 6-18 (33.3%) from behind the arc.

Mayville State scored 62 points in the paint, had 31 bench points and 20 fast break points. Their largest lead of the night was 37.

The Comets are back in action tomorrow, taking on the Blazers for game two. Tip off is scheduled for 1:00pm.

Following the game, men's basketball will host a "MSU Used Toos" alumni game against the JV team around 3:00pm.
