Mayville, N.D. - Mayville State Comets Women's Basketball returned back to the Lewy Lee Tuesday night where they hosted the Trinity Bible College Lions.
The Comets defense would hold the Lions to just 8 points in the first half and eventually come out on top 93-27.
9 of the 11 Comets that saw the floor scored. The leader in points would be none other than
Mackenzie Hughes. She had 22 points and 4 rebounds. She was 9-14 from the floor and shot 3-6 from behind the arc. Hughes is averaging 24.2 points a game.
Jes Mertens continued to stuff the stat sheet all around. She scored 13 points, and a season high 10 steals. Mertens also had 7 assists and 4 rebounds. She is averaging 7.4 steals, 7.8 assists and 15.4 points per game.
Annika Reierson had a career high 16 points where she was 4-6 from behind the arc. She added 3 assists and 3 steals.
Freshman
Misti Zempel continues to be a contributor down low for the Comets. She had a career high 13 rebounds.Â
There was a new familiar face on the bench Tuesday night,
Claire Canahuate [Blascziek], returned to the coaching staff. Claire was an assistant under previous head coach, Dennis Hutter, and played at Mayville State from 2016-2020.
The Comets were scheduled to play in Minot today, but weather has pushed that game to tomorrow. Tipoff is now scheduled for 6:00pm Thursday at the Minot State Dome.
